Silas Dewalt Jr. Scholarship
The scholarship is named after Bro. Silas Dewalt Jr. who has been a pillar to his community and surrounding areas. Having his boots to the ground, dedicated and determined to help the next generation of young people become successful. As a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. his name is well respected for exemplifying the fraternities' principles and motto since the fall of 1979.
Silas Dewalt Jr. is a native of Silverstreet, SC and the youngest of 12 siblings. He is a graduate of Newberry High School Class of 1975. After graduating high school Silas continued his education at Morris College for a year then transferred to Benedict College. In 1980 he graduated from Benedict College with Degree in Sociology. After graduating Silas began working for the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs of Newberry where he served there for 15 years. He then worked for Department of Juvenile Justice Tri-County Area (Edgefield, Saluda, and McCormick) for 17 years.
Bro. Silas is a Fall 1979 initiate of the Beta Mu Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. For 45 years Silas has been serving the organization in different roles and a significant role in establishing the Omicron Lambda Sigma Chapter of Newberry and also the Alpha Beta Psi Chapter at Newberry College. Silas is also a member of Elisha AME Church where he serves as Stewart Pro Tem and Sunday School Superintendent for 20+ years.
Silas Dewalt Jr. is excelling in his calling of life. He is a man of vision, purpose, and determination. The scholarship will go towards a deserving student who also demonstrates those traits and wishes to continue to grow by furthering their education.
